Parkfield Ranch Rodeo History

-S-izxlP.jpeg.jpg

The Ranch Rodeo began in 1993 when Katy Varian and Blaine Santos wanted to produce a top-notch Ranch Rodeo event to bring business to the small town of Parkfield, Ca. The arena was being built up until the debut morning by friends and family. Each year it grew and expanded, with hundreds of contestants and spectators coming out each May. Katy continued growing the Rodeo for 26 years and then handed the reins over in 2019 to her niece Sage Massey and daughter Kayla Santos who went on to produce the 27th Annual. On the inaugural year they added their own touch with a new event, "The Match Branding" with a Calcutta. Also added that year was a concert and dance Saturday night, VIP area for the event sponsors, and new food and shopping vendors.

In 2021, we pivoted and hosted “The Parkfield Ranch Rodeo Round Up" and Pasture roping which was a fun changeup. The pasture roping was run Pendleton style and was so fun one to watch!

In 2022, we fused the Rodeo style events with the Ranch style events by having arena events as well as the Pasture roping. We added “The Finals” to the Rodeo and took back the top 10 cowboys and cowgirls from each event and ran it sudden death style, crowning each event champion on Saturday night. We also made updates to the grounds with the new "Cowboy Bar" and updates to the arena.

In 2023 we added the new sponsor area, nailing down the floor up until the night before the Rodeo started. New this year was adding more junior events and more branding events.

In 2024, we hosted "The Finals" and added $5,000 in added money to the Event Champion payout to go with their buckles and awards. We also hosted a Calcutta style charity for a local cowboy that was a massive success.

In 2025, we plan on keeping the layout and events the same as 2024 with “The Finals” each day and a Calcutta to kick off each performance. To kick-off the weekend we will be hosting a breakaway roping jackpot and team roping jackpot.

There will be food, shopping, and Rodeo all day Saturday and Sunday so come out and have a cold one with us and hang with your rodeo family!

We look forward to seeing you May 23rd-25th!

Be here when it happens!
